Vista Counseling & Wellness: Meet Karley Brunelle
Registered Mental Health Counselor Intern @ Vista
Becoming a therapist is something that came with a mix of passion and curiosity, particularly in the areas of neurodiversity, behavioral therapy, and the profound connection between our brains and bodies. It all began when I decided to dive into the field of Exceptional Student Education (ESE), with a specific focus on neurodiversity. The more I learned, the clearer it became to me how the brain's health directly impacts every aspect of our well-being and life satisfaction. This realization led to a shift in my career towards understanding how we can optimize both brain and body connections to create positive change.
I specialize in helping individuals navigate a variety of life challenges. I find deep fulfillment in working with people during critical life stages and transitions, such as parenting, pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum periods. These are times of immense emotional and physical shifts, and I work to support individuals and families through them. I also focus heavily on relationship issues, self-esteem challenges, trauma, and PTSD, particularly for adolescents aged 12+. These are pivotal moments in one's life when self-worth and coping mechanisms are built or tested.
My approach is person-centered and holistic. I believe in treating the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—and using tools that create meaningful change, such as EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), which has proven to be helpful for many of my clients, especially those dealing with trauma. My goal is always to meet you where you are and work together to help you achieve a sense of balance and growth.
Outside of therapy, I am kept on my toes by the demands of “mom life”. Being a parent is a full-time job in itself, and balancing it with my professional work definitely keeps me busy. But I love it! It's a constant adventure. I also make it a priority to stay up to date with the latest research and literature in the mental health field, which allows me to bring new insights and tools to our session. Continued learning is a passion of mine, as it helps me be the best therapist I can be. In my downtime, I love spending time with my family and getting outdoors. The park and beach are some of my favorite places to unwind. I’m a coffee enthusiast, and I firmly believe in a strong cup of coffee! Travel is a huge passion of mine. I’ve been to several countries and love exploring new cultures and cuisines whenever possible.
Being a therapist allows me to merge my love of learning and helping others.
