The first session will be an assessment where your therapist will gain a better idea of your goals, functioning, and how they can help you. You will spend some time getting comfortable with each other before getting to the more difficult topics. Your therapist will move at a pace you’re comfortable with, while still challenging you to confront what is holding you back from feeling connected to yourself or others. Sometimes therapy looks like learning coping skills, communication skills, building self-esteem, processing trauma, or goal setting. However it looks for you, know that your therapist will provide a safe, calm space for you to show up however you are that day.

Eye Movement Desensitization
and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a type of structured therapy that can help you adaptively process distressing memories or events. EMDR is used to treat trauma, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, addiction, and more. EMDR uses eye movements from left to right (called bilateral stimulation) in order to aid the brain in its natural healing process and change the way the memory is stored in the brain and body.
